Florian Znaniecki – b. 1882, in Świątniki (near Włocławek), d. 1958, in Urbana-Champaign (USA). He was a professor of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and later a lecturer of Columbia University and a sociology professor at University of Illinois. He was a founder and member of the Polish Scientific Association Abroad and the president, from 1953 to 1954, of the American Sociological Association. He was a leading Polish sociologist. His main philosophical interests concerned methodology, axiology, and epistemology. His main works were: Humanizm i poznanie (Humanism and Cognition, 1912), Cultural Reality (1919), The Method of Sociology (1934), Pisma filozoficzne, v. I (Philosophical Writings, 1987), v. II (1991).
